The First Guti Blog Post

Written By: Andrew Lebedin

This weekend was exciting for a lot of reasons out in the GUTI rift. Lots of new faces, a wide variety of armies saw play, and… we are happy to announce the first Gaming Under The Ice blog post!

This weekend saw 28 players sign up for our March RTT, consisting of three 2.5 hour games.  Lots of familiar local faces showing up in the top players for the event, like Rudy Friesen who took home first place with a combined total of 271 battle points with his Gladius Task Force astartes list, Logan Antonation, who came in close second with his Shadow Legion Daemons list scoring 269 total points, and GUTI’s very own Kylee Plouffe coming in third with her signature sisters of battle, this time taking Hallowed Martyrs as her detachment of choice scoring 207 total battle points.

We also saw the return of our favourite TO Kari after her few month hiatus!

Overall, it was an extremely diverse weekend! Out of the 28 players this weekend, we saw 20 unique factions, with the most played faction being Chaos Daemons, which had 3 players. Aeldari, Blood Angels, CSM, Guard, Sisters, and Space Marines, are all tied for second most players, with two for each faction.

The day started off strong with some really fun matchups in round one Kylee Plouffe and Ivan Burachynsky, both household names in GUTI, playing Sisters and Daemons respectively resulted in Kylee taking a narrow win with a final score of 46 to 39

I was lucky enough to play into Jakop Kopec, a newcomer to our events, who had a super fun Devoted of Ynead Aeldari list. I was piloting my Custodes this weekend using the new Lions of the Emperor detachment. Many blows were traded in our game, but at the end of the day the Emperors chosen managed to pull ahead and score a win with 83-77. Jakob went on to secure two wins after our close game, and finished the event in 12th place with a final total of 250 battle points.

Round two saw some familiar faces starting to pull ahead, with Kylee Plouffe winning a decisive game into Darren Hunter and his Genestealer Cults, with a final score of 84-43

Logan Antonation and his Daemons played into Curtis Strong and his Tyranids. Curtis took a super fun list this weekend with 40 termagants, 20 hormagaunts, and a hierophant bio titan, among the standard tyranid stables like exocrines and biovores. Logan secured a victory with 99 battle points to Curtis’ 53

Round 3 was where the magic happened, literally and figuratively.

Kylee and I paired together in round 3, which saw the Sisters of Battle turn the forces of the Adeptus Custodes into gold mist in record time. We both ended the tournament with a game of Magic the Gathering, satisfied with the results of our days.

Logan took home his third win of the event into TJ Parsons, in a Chaos Daemons mirror match, with a final score of 72-32.

Our winner of the event, Rudy Friesen, scored a decisive victory against Richard Hannah, with a final score of 96-40.

It was really nice to see some new faces, and a large variety of lists. Piloting the new Custodes detachment for the first time, Lions of the Emperor definitely has its merits over the safe option Shield Host, and I am definitely looking forward to getting some more games in with them soon.

Thanks for reading what I hope to be the first of many Gaming Under The Ice blog posts!
